Reproduction Of A Truth — A Grey Area

Perception is the process of acquiring, registering, interpreting, selecting, and organising sensory information. Our perception provides only a limited analysis as our brain fills in the remaining details. The result is that our experience of a situation is clear and fluid. What we do not realise is that we fill in the blanks with fragments from our own experiences.

We create our own reality.

I translated this concept by creating a grey scale* as my origin point. The original was created in a darkroom, later using different photocopiers to make reproductions of this original.
The machines all scanned the same image. Yet the machines processed the information in different ways, i.e. perception. Not one machine recreated the same image when it came to shades and colours. Below you can find the differences in shading and colouring in the image.

*a grey scale; The reality is not black or white, it lies in between the two colours — an endless grey scale that knowns countless tones.
